He Really Is Bringing Us Together

I know people from all across the political spectrum. And, I must confess, when my progressive friends touted Pres. Obama as being the one who would bring this country together, I was skeptical. I remained skeptical for what I thought were good reasons until very recently. But a spirit of unity is sweeping through the land and I would be foolish not to acknowledge it.

Absolutely no one I know is in favour of intervening in Syria. And I know some genuine troglodytes on the right and rabid progressives on the left. Not one of them is for it.

God bless you President Obama. It took you seven years but you have pulled us all together.

Obama and I

The President and I have something in common it turns out. We both prefer the same Girl Scout cookie. My preference hasn't shifted since I was a tot. Doubtless the fact that it is the most popular brand has nothing to do with his choice.

And it's good to see Politico weighing in on the heavier issues.

As an FYI, if there is a Publix in your area the store brand mint chocolate cookies are an excellent stand in for the Girl Scout variety and much, much cheaper.

It's Deja Vu All Over Again

President Obama's campaign is seeking smaller venues than last election for a more intimate voter experience.

This reminds of something, I just can't quite put my finger on it.

Running Scared

The Arkansas Democrats have changed the rules for running in their primary. It's their right so to do. They aren't even required to have a primary.

What intrigues me is why. Apparently they were afraid that Pres. Obama might lose.

Since he pretty much has a lock on the nomination right now, why the desire for unanimity? I thought only North Koreans really cared about getting 100% of the vote.

The Best Candidate

Irrespective of policy views (and I mostly respect his policy views) the clear best candidate is not in the Presidential race. Being President takes a certain toll on the office holder.

Which is why Chris Christie is the man most constitutionally suited for the job.

Expert Opinion

Mitt Romney has said that Newt Gingrich is an "extremely unreliable leader in the conservative world".

I think we have to take his word on that. No one knows more about being an extremely unreliable conservative leader than Mitt Romney.

Sometimes it's best to defer to the experts.

My initial thought was finally someone has discovered a use for them. Which was followed shortly by a sense of crushing disappointment that the headline couldn't be true. Truly heartbreaking and probably a sign I need more sleep and possibly an eye exam.

Reporters are complaining that Sarah Palin is making their lives difficult. It's as though she were paying them back for being mean about her all those years.

All Things Being Equal

Would it be better to have a bad liar as governor or a good liar as governor?

As far as I know, Rick Scott is not a liar, so all things are likely not equal in Florida. But the question is worth considering.

I think it boils down to credibility. If the candidate just can not tell lies without giving away that she's lying (i.e. facial expressions), then I would vote for her. If she can not get away with lying due to incompetence (which would be the case here), then I would not vote for her.

The difference is that incompetence is rarely confined only to one area. If she habitually shoots herself in the foot, then she shouldn't be allowed near any dangerous objects, not just firearms.

I've decided I'm angry enough to make a political ad, but not mad enough to actually run for office.

Good News Even If You Are A Democrat

If Prof. Sabato is correct then we won't have to listen to Nancy Pelosi anymore. That's a very good thing. I've had an inordinate dislike for her ever since the “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.”

Arrogance and condescension such as that has no place in American politics.

On a related note, President Obama has never had to deal with opposition in his political career. How will he handle the next two years if control of Congress passes to the Republicans? Some are claiming he will become Clintonesque, others say he will channel former President Carter. If it happens, I think he will chart his own course.
