Best Quote So Far- Lambeth 2009

Bishop Frade neatly encapsulates the Episcopal debacle: "We were able to clarify that neither he nor anyone else gets disciplined in our church for beliefs". Nice to have official confirmation that the Episcopal Church is effectively free of content.

Big hint for the bishops: If you do not believe in anything, it is rather hard to recruit people to join you. You say you are for justice, peace and the environment. Most of us are. I know I am. But those concepts as you use them are so vague as to be meaningless.

Unless and until you actually commit to something worth fighting for, and you demonstrate your commitment to it by meaningful effort and cost, no one will ever follow you. All that you have going for you right now are inertia and habit, and both are diminishing over time.

The Episcopal Church isn't just corrupt, although it certainly is. It isn't just rotten, although that is true as well. It is hollow. And its leaders are hollow as well.

Reminds me of one of my favorite poets, T. S. Eliot.

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar
