Marcy Burstiner, a media professor in Humboldt County Californis, has written an excellent essay excoriating newspaper on their local religion coverage. The only thing I can add is that too much of our local paper is wire service fodder.
When I was a mere lad my father told me that my name should appear in a newspaper on only three occasions: My birth, marriage and death. The AJC does not report births. They report marriages and deaths only if you pay them to. I can remember people buying extra copies of the newspaper on such occurrences. If the newspapers do not understand that the failure to report local news is killing them, then they are even more clueless.
