John McCain has doubled down. And he shouldn't have.
He really shouldn't have fired back. Because if we are hobbits, I think that means he thinks he is an Istari (wizard). I agree with him in that. In terms of American contemporary politics he is in fact a wizard.
He is Saruman.

You never want to intentionally piss off someone you don't agree with. I may not agree with his politics (nor the Tea Party's), but I don't resort to petty insults.
As to the second, blog post, yeah - I wouldn't have used "Hobbit" as a pejorative; I say "You are the small underdog who will inevitably save the world."
