The song you link is very interesting. It would seem that women's attempts to appear more attractive through hair dye or girdles was viewed as criminal:

The lady who dyes a chemical yellow
Or stains her grey hair puce,
Or pinches her figure,
Is painted with vigour
And permanent walnut juice.

Reminds me of the Islamists in Somalia punishing women for wearing bras.

I guess men really don't like women fixing themselves up to be attractive.
